Winter 2020 Workshops

Life Drawing

All artists, from accomplished to beginner, are welcome to these two-hour life drawing sessions.  The unclothed model will hold short, 1-minute, 5-minute and 10-minute poses for the first 50 minutes, after a break the model will hold two longer poses. All materials (except solvents) are welcome. No instruction.  Doors open at 6:45 for set up.  Every 2nd  Tuesday of the month:  Feb 11, March 10,  April 14       7-9:30 PM             $20 per session

Portrait Drawing                                           

All artists are welcome to these portrait drawing sessions.  The clothed, and sometimes costumed model will hold one 10-minute pose, and then one pose for the rest of the session. All materials (except solvents) are welcome. No instruction. Doors open at 6:45 for set up. Every fourth Tuesday of the month:  Feb 25, March 24, April 28 7-9:30 PM       $20 per session 

Classic Drawing

Advanced Studio


For Artists who have taken previous Durham Art School courses or have some painting or drawing experience and want to practice, and to refine technique. Work independently from still lifes.  Instruction or mentorship as needed at start and end of session.  Bring your choice of acrylic, oil (no solvents) watercolour or pastel.

Landscape Bootcamp

Build sketching strength, painting fitness and stretch your style in this rigorous three day painting workshop. This will be hard but rewarding work. Fashion illustration

A three part series focusing on techniques of fashion illustration. Fashion drawing is a valuable skill for designers and sewers who want to make accurate and elegant sketches to present their ideas and concepts. Also useful for anyone who wants to explore and develop a stylized way to draw people. No prior drawing skills required.

Painters Taboret

This taboret holds paint (3 mediums), pastels, brushes, palettes, sketchpads, and odds and ends.  The back holds larger containers, boards, and cans.  Each drawer is fitted with steel sliders so that the drawer can be fully extended and hold 50 pounds.  Looks beautiful, and holds everything.

Group of Seven – Painting Workshop
Art history comes alive in this step by step course for everyone, from absolute beginner to advanced.  You will leave with your hand- painted reproduction to take home and a greater understanding of the style and approach of these accomplished painters.   Learn the secrets of these pioneering Canadian artists by replicating their paintings, including the colours they used, and how they composed their images of Canadian Landscape. Careful replication of masterworks is a time honoured French approach to the study of painting.  Everything you need is provided, included high quality artists’  paint, brushes and wrapped canvas or panel.        Tuesdays  7 to 9 PM    $40 per session, or $110 for all three.
